Save seeds 101 - with Dave

Join us and our mate Dave from Ecoseeds for this seed saver workshop 🌱

With over 20 years of experience in organic seed saving, Dave will explore the importance of local seeds and cover the basic principles to get started on saving your own.

What is seed saving, you ask? 🌿 🦕

Seed saving aka brown-bagging is the practice of saving seeds or other reproductive material from veggies, grains and herbs.

Seed saving is the traditional way people have been maintaining farms and gardens for the past 12,000 years.

In recent years, seed saving has become less common thanks to the rise in commercial seed suppliers.

Why is seed saving important? 🌱

The commercialisation of food means we have less variety in our diets (take carrots 🥕 , for example, supermarkets generally stock one variety - but there’s probably hundreds of different varieties out there). Then, through industrialisation and the introduction of sprays and fertilisers, we’re creating less resilient seeds.

In a world where food security is becoming an issue, learning how to save your own seeds is a skill you probably want to have.

Seeds = food.

Also - seed saving (and organic seed saving) is a great wat to get back to our roots (some pun intended)
