How they work

Unlike regular heaters, heat pumps don’t create heat—they move it.

Heat pumps have two parts, an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The outdoor unit absorbs the warmth from the surrounding air, transfers it into a refrigerant, and then pumps it into the indoor unit to heat or cool the air.

The process

We make it easy to choose the right heat pump for your home.

Our expert team provide the whole deal: they assess your home, then supply and install your brand-new heat pump.

Our free home assessment (and quote) involves our qualified home performance advisers finding the best spot to place the heat pump, as well as getting the right system size and helping you choose the perfect model. Then, once you have accepted your quote, you’ll be booked in for an installation.

Our installation team will then come and set everything up for you. Once your heat pump is installed, they will show you how to use every setting and get the most out of your system. Then, it’s ready to be switched on and enjoyed!

Our range includes Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin and Hitachi heat pumps.

Frequently asked questions

  • To prevent illness and create a comfortable, healthy environment, the World Health Organisation recommends homes are at least 18°C, or higher for more vulnerable groups like children, the elderly and people who are unwell.

To maintain temperatures of 18°C or more, at a minimum most homes in New Zealand need fixed and appropriately-sized heating for living areas and radiant heaters for bedrooms.

  • The right heating for a home depends on how the home and each room is used, as well as level of insulation, building construction, the region you’re in and your home’s available energy sources.

  • Good insulation makes homes easier and cheaper to heat, as it keeps heat inside where it's needed. Best practice is to insulate before you heat (or book in with us to have both installed at the same time).

  • A heat pump is an air conditioning unit that can reverse itself to generate heat, which not all air conditioners can do. Air conditioners are more popular in warmer countries, but the ability to both heat and cool means heat pumps are much more popular in NZ. They are a two-in-one solution.

  • A ducted heat pump is a system that uses air ducts in your roof space or underfloor to warm or cool multiple rooms at the same time. They are increasingly popular as whole-home heating and cooling systems because they allow homeowners to control the heating in specific rooms, and their small vents (usually in your flooring) are also a more discreet option.

  • We aren’t tied to any one brand like some other companies. We supply and install Fujitsu, Hitachi, Daikin and Mitsubishi heat pumps.

Our home energy experts will advise and provide a no-obligation free quote for the best solution for your home.

  • Consumer NZ's Winter and Heating Guide is excellent. It summarises features and benefits of popular heating products like full home ducted heat pumps and electric heaters, including average running costs. Download the [desktop] or [mobile version.]
