School holiday programmes: Wilderkids

Wilderkids is a school holiday programme for kids who really want an adventure.

Based in Wellington’s Town Belt, Wilderkids gets kids exploring nature on our city fringes. The focus is on care, connection and curiosity.

Children aged 5 to 12 will have a fun-filled, outdoors day with the Sustainability Trust education team – learning hands-on about the birds, bees, trees, creepy crawlies (and everything else that lives and breathes in our forests).

The focus is on connecting with nature and highlighting what’s already in our backyards to explore, understanding why it’s important to care for it, and learning about some ways to be sustainable. Each Wilderkids school holiday programme is a little different from the last.

"I just wanted to congratulate you guys on your holiday programme. Our girls came to your day last Friday and have been raving ever since. Apparently the best programme they have ever had!!  Thanks to everyone."     Kellie 2018

Update on the longer days trial

During the Easter school holidays, we trialed a longer day option. Although it was well received, we have made the difficult decision not to continue it.

We know that there will be some disappointed parents out there, but we hope you understand that this decision has been made with the well-being of your children in mind.  Due to the energetic, outdoor nature of Wilderkids, our educators need to be fully rested to be able to do the programme justice each day and keep everyone safe and happy.

The good news is, that our team of educators is ready to deliver another memorable round of Wilderkids!
