Building back for a better future

Building back for a better future.

Our leaders are planning for Aotearoa’s economic recovery post-COVID-19 and there is an opportunity to ‘build back better’.

Passionate about the world we live in, we have written to government ministers to encourage them to take this opportunity to invest in solutions that will create a low carbon, climate-resilient and inclusive economy.

Our top priorities for where money should be spent in any recovery package are:

  • tackling energy hardship

  • Improving housing standards

  • supporting a circular economy

  • reducing waste to landfill

  • diversion of food waste from landfill

  • building local food resilience

  • development of community energy infrastructure

  • prioritisation of walkers, cyclists and electric vehicles in our cities; and

  • support for social enterprises.

Wellington City Council has released its draft annual plan and we will submit our response which will focus on our mission to create warm dry homes and reduce the environmental impact of people living in the Wellington region.

Now is the time for us all to write to our national and local decision-makers to make our voices heard and share our vision for a better future.
