How much does a heat pump cost to install? You could be eligible for a huge discount.
Imagine warm, toasty air filling your living room during chilly Kiwi winters, and a cool, refreshing breeze keeping you comfortable over summer. That’s the beauty of a heat pump—it’s a two-in-one solution that works as a heater in winter and an air conditioner in summer. It also has a dehumidifier mode, to reduce moisture in the air. Beyond keeping you comfortable, it also helps reduce energy bills with its efficient technology, making it a win for both your wallet and the environment.
So How Much Does Heat Pump Installation Cost in Wellington?
Installing a heat pump typically costs $2,500 to $4,500 in Wellington, depending on your home's size and the heat pump model you choose. But don’t stress—if you qualify for the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme, you could receive up to 80% off, with a maximum subsidy of $3,000. That means your installation could be mostly, or if not, entirely, covered!
What’s the Installation Process?
We give your home a free assessment: An expert will visit your home to recommend the best heat pump based on your specific spaces and needs.

How Can a Heat Pump be Free for My Home?
Under the Warmer Kiwi Homes [KO1] programme, you may qualify for a free or heavily subsidized heat pump if:
● Your home was built before 2008.
● You own and live in the property.
● Your main living area doesn’t have a fixed heating source.
● You either live within the EECA eligibility zone, have a Community Services Card or live in a low-income area.
● Your home is properly insulated (or considered unable to be insulated due to the nature of its construction uninsulatable).
If eligible, you’ll only need to cover a small portion—or potentially none—of the installation costs. To check your eligibility, click here.
Why Should I Get a Heat Pump?
● Lower Energy Bills
Heat pumps are more energy [KO1] efficient than electric heaters and cheaper to run.
● Year-Round Comfort
Enjoy both heating and cooling, all in one system. As well as dehumidifier features.
● A Healthier Home
A warm, dry environment may reduces dampness and respiratory issues.
● Eco-Friendly
Lower your carbon footprint by using less power and avoid using gas heating
[KO1]Added energy, because lots of other heaters are ‘efficient’ as in fast to heat a space - but are massive energy guzzlers.
Not Sure?
We’re Sustainability Trust in visits up to 7,000 homes each year - and have been doing this since 2003, when we could see the impact that insulation and heating could make to reduce cold damp housing here in New Zealand. We love hearing what a difference this has made for people across our community. Read our google reviews here , to hear how others have found us helpful.
[KO1]Reason for adding this paragraph: I was reading the other day that 73% of people are unlikely to make a purchase until they have read a review or testimonial - and from there sales conversions massively increase.
