Sustainability Trust on sustainability

As a leader in sustainability in the Wellington region, it is important that we support our communities to take climate change action and nurture their relationship with Papatūānuku. To do this, we must make sure that our own whare is in order and be an exemplar as a sustainable business.

It all starts with Good Governance. Our Board and Senior Leadership Team are committed to improving the Trust’s sustainability performance. They do this by:

  • Recognising Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa and respecting the obligations it places on all of us to be good kaitiaki of Papatūānuku.

  • Embedding the Sustainable Development Goals across our organisation.

  • Prioritising climate action advocacy.

  • Applying a sustainability lens across all policy, processes, programmes and projects.

  • Establishing a Sustainability Manager role to fulfil our commitment to sustainability best practice.

  • Promoting a strong culture of sustainability across all employees.

  • Measuring the carbon footprint of the Trust’s operations.

  • Backing our Green Team.

  • Reporting on our sustainability achievements.

Our Priority Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were announced as a part of the UN’s Agenda 2030 and consist of 17 goals that meet the current economic, social, and environmental challenges facing our world.

There is a focus on the 5 Ps for sustainable development:

Plant, People, Peace, Partnership, and Prosperity.

Whilst interning at Sustainability Trust, Hayley Jones helped us identify our priority SDGs and an impact model to guide our work. Keeping our mahi aligned and future-focused.

We have four pillars of sustainability at the Trust.
