Measuring your windows

We take curtain donations from businesses and members of the public and cut them to fit your home.

When measured and hung correctly, curtains can make a big difference to your home.

Please follow our instructions on how to measure your windows so your curtains fit.

How to measure your windows

blue window long.png

Measuring a standard window - A standard window has a straight track that runs across the top of the window. The window with the blue curtains and the window with red curtains are ‘standard’ windows. Here is how you measure a standard window:

Measuring the WIDTH - Hold the measuring tape at the outside edge of the window frame and measure across to the opposite side of the window frame

Measuring the LENGTH - Hold the measuring tape at the top of the curtain tracks (OR window frame) and measure down to the very bottom of the window frame.

Measuring the DROP - Hold the measuring tape at the top of the curtain tracks (OR window frame) and measure down to the floor.

Measuring a corner window - A corner window is a window that sits in the corner of a room. Measure a corner window as if it is two separate windows. Here is how you measure a corner window:

Measuring the WIDTH - Hold the measuring tape at the outside edge of the window frame and measure to the corner of the window.

Repeat the process so that you have two sets of measurements the corner window.

Measuring a bay window - A bay window is a window that does not sit flat across a wall. Measure a bay window as if it is one window with one track. Here is how you measure a bay window:

Measuring the WIDTH - Hold the measuring tape at the outside edge of the window frame, follow the window inward and around to the opposite side. It should feel like you are taking more two or three measurements (depending on the type of bay window).

If the bay window has a straight track, measure it as if it was a ‘standard’ window (see instructions above).

You must provide measurements for the width, length and drop for each window.
