Plastic Free July: Staff Bake-Off

Plastic Free July: staff bake-off

Here at The Trust, we need no excuse for a good ol’ fashioned morning tea. But with Plastic-Free July upon us we thought we would take it to the next level and have a good ol’ fashioned plastic free bake off!

To support everyone on their plastic free baking journey, we bought a bunch of supplies from our friends at Hopper Home and got staff to take ingredients home and use it in the baking. Some people found this easy and some came unstuck trying to go totally plastic free… we all learnt that the wrapping on a stick of butter is NOT recyclable.

Ari, Polly and Lisa, three of our legendary team, were particularly proud of their efforts. We're sharing their makes and top secret recipes with you to give you inspiration and get you thinking about your own plastic use. All the recipes are intensely delicious and deceptively simple.

Get inspired, ditch that dang plastic and go cook some yummy stuff.

Ari (Customer Service- Heating/Insulation)

Ari is one of the newest members of our team, and decided to make the vegan chocolate brownie recipe that he developed over lockdown. With plastic free flour from our supply, chocolate with home-compostable packaging from our EcoShop, and other ingredients from home- these were an absolute hit. Ari’s top tip: bananas make a great (and tasty!) binding ingredient to replace eggs.

Polly (Sustainability Manager)

Polly showed us all up, making her (office) famous vegan chocolate pear cake AND a gorgeous carrot cake. All ingredients were refills from Hopper Refill other than an orange from Sustainability Trust, pears and carrots from her Commonsense veggie box and nutmeg.

Lisa (Well Homes & Customer Service)

Lisa made a lovely vegan chocolate cake with a cinnamon kick- a recipe inspired by Depression Era recipes that used basic ingredients and oil instead of butter. No plastic in sight!
