What is CanBead?
CanBead is part of the CanInspire Charitable Trust
Their motto is Create - Support - Inspire
They run creative therapy jewellery making workshops for groups of people experiencing illness, trauma or loss, through host agencies such as Mary Potter Hospice, Cancer Society, Brain Injury Association, MS Society, Central Region Eating Disorders Services, Sweet Louise, Wellington Women’s House, Grandparents raising Grandchildren, Birthright, Mental Health support groups, Refugee and Migrant Groups and more in the not for profit and charitable sector.
Their volunteers sew kitbags for participants, using ribbon as the drawstring. The kitbags are given to workshop participants, containing tools, beads and equipment so that they can continue practising the skills they have learned.
They love bringing creativity to people going through a rough time.

What is the reuse programme?
All the donations will get used for the workshops.
How does this fit in with our sustainability ethos?
Most of CanBead’s workshop resources are donated, mostly as unwanted jewellery which they deconstruct, and occasionally use new beads from generous crafters or retailers. They re-use fasteners and other elements from the donated jewellery and minimise waste by recycling any scrap metal at Sustainability Trust.
