Our Staff
The Trust employs over 25 full-time staff in projects, administration, and home insulation. We are governed by a Board of Trustees and managed by a Chief Executive and three programme managers.
Work Streams
Our current emphasis is on household energy efficiency and climate change. We have a special focus on assisting low-income households to reduce energy costs and eliminate cold and damp homes. Over the past ten years we have developed and delivered a range of programmes for individuals, households, communities and business seeking to become more sustainable.
Our History
Sustainability Trust was established in 2003. That year the Trust received its first grant from the Ministry for the Environment to establish an Environment Centre in the Wellington region.
The Trust moved into its first base at Trash Palace near the Spicer Landfill in Porirua in late 2003.
The following year, in collaboration with Porirua City Council, Sustainability Trust developed a workshop programme on a range of sustainability topics, hosted school visits, and begin to build networks throughout the Wellington Region.
Over the past ten years we have developed and delivered programmes in the following areas:
- Insulation and heating
- Home energy advice
- Waste reduction, recycling, & composting
- Transport alternatives
- Community gardens
- Environmental education for schools and community groups
- Capacity building for new or developing community groups
Currently we are focused on delivering and advising on home sustainability solutions. We are now based in Forresters Lane in the CBD.
